NY and Gay Marriage

So NY became the sixth state, I believe, to legalize gay marriage. Lets all give them a standing round of applause! The sad thing is is that there are still a ban on gay marriage in 44 other states, including the one I live in, Florida, and the place of my birth, my home state of Texas. What this says to me and to millions of others is that it’s ok to be gay, kinda, but we still don’t think you are quite worthy of full citizenship rights. We’ve all seen this before. Anybody remember that little 3/5 of a person thing. LGBT community is the last vestige of personal discrimination this country has left. It’s amazing to me that it is completely acceptable to discriminate against other Americans for nothing other than who they spend the night with. I get that it is against almost everyones religion, but big deal! I, nor is any supporter of gay marriage, want to force gay marriages in any church. We only want the basic rights for all citizens. I also know that the institution of marriage has been around for thousands of years and that it has evolved over those years from an institution of property lines and dowries to one of love and choice of spouse. I believe now, in this era and in this country it is time for marriage to evolve again to include all citizens.
